Game Overview
I first played The Dark Queen of Krynn on the Amiga back in 1992, a release from Strategic Simulations, Inc. It was a time when role-playing games on home computers were deep, complex, and often unforgiving, and this one fit right in. As the second part of a trilogy, it continued the story from the first game, but you could jump in with a new party if you wanted. The graphics and interface were typical for the era, functional but not flashy, relying more on imagination and mechanics than visual spectacle.
You control a party of up to six characters, each with distinct classes and abilities drawn from Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules. Your main goal is to thwart the plans of the dark queen, Takhisis, by exploring towns, wilderness areas, and multi-level dungeons. The game uses turn-based combat where positioning and spell selection matter a great deal, and you'll spend a lot of time managing inventory, swapping weapons, and memorizing spells at inns. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the difficulty can be punishing if you're not careful with your resources. It feels like a thoughtful, challenging journey where every decision carries weight.
