Game Overview
Street Rod 2: The Second Generation came out for the Amiga in 1991, developed by Logical Design Works and published by California Dreams. It was part of that wave of early 90s games that tried to capture the feel of American car culture, focusing on the gritty, hands-on side of racing rather than just speed.
You play as a young driver trying to build a reputation in the underground drag racing scene. The main goal is to earn enough money and win enough races to eventually challenge the mysterious top racer, Jake. You spend your time buying and upgrading cars, part by part, from engines to tires, and then take them out to race on city streets. The actual races are short, tense sprints where managing your gears and avoiding oncoming traffic is key. The game moves at a deliberate pace, with a lot of time spent in menus tweaking your ride, and the difficulty can be unforgiving if you don't plan your upgrades carefully. It feels like a mix of strategy and quick reflexes, where every decision with your car directly impacts your chances on the road.
