If you miss the days of SNK’s weapon-based fighters but want something a little different from Samurai Shodown, The Last Blade nails that same vibe with its own twist. The first thing you’ll notice is how clean the animations are—every slash and parry just feels weighty, especially when you pull off a deflect at the last second and counter with a brutal combo.
You pick between Speed or Power mode before each fight, and it actually changes how you play. Speed’s all about chaining quick hits into specials, while Power turns you into a walking nuke—if you can survive long enough with a flashing health bar to unleash those ridiculous Super Desperation Moves. I kept getting wrecked trying to land them at first, but man, when they connect? So satisfying.
It’s got that classic Neo Geo charm—gorgeous pixel art, dramatic sword clashes, and characters who actually fight like they’re trying to kill each other. Just don’t blame me when you spend an hour in training mode figuring out deflect timings.
