2020 Toshi Super Baseball is one of those weird, late-era Genesis gems where someone said, "Baseball, but what if we cranked it to 11?" You pick between human players (decked out in sci-fi gear to keep up) or straight-up robots with wild abilities—think fastball pitches that look like they’re glitching the game. The outfield walls are all glass, so good luck hitting a home run unless you time it just right.
It’s got that arcade-y NeoGeo feel (which makes sense, since it started there), but the Mega Drive version holds up surprisingly well. The robot pitcher on the Tokyo team has this ridiculous curveball that still messes me up. Also, no save slots—just old-school passwords, so keep a notepad handy.
Definitely more fun with two players, especially if you’re the type to argue whether cyborgs count as cheating in sports.
