Game Overview

Accordion is one of those solitaire games that looks simple at first—until you realize how weirdly satisfying it is to collapse a whole mess of cards into one tidy pile. You start with four cards face-up, and from there, you either make a move or deal another card. The trick? You can only stack a card (or a whole pile) onto another if they match by suit or number, but only if the target is to the left. Sounds easy, but it gets brain-tickling fast.

What’s cool is how much you can tweak the rules. Want to make it easier? Let cards stack on matching colors instead of suits. Feeling masochistic? Restrict moves to same-number matches only. There are over 200 variations, so if you hit a wall, just tweak the settings and try again. And yeah, there’s a cheat button—it nudges you toward a solution, but it won’t win the game for you (which is both helpful and slightly annoying).

There are two versions on the disk: the full one with decent graphics and help, and a stripped-down 33KB version that’s barebones but plays exactly the same. If you’re tight on memory, the small one’s your friend. Either way, it’s a great way to kill time when you want something between mindless and maddening.
