Play Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer (Japan) Online
You control a slick ship with helper drones—lock them in place for focused shots or let them orbit for wide coverage while dodging waves of pulsating alien crafts. That simple choice makes each run feel fresh.

Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer is one of those Genesis shooters that flew under the radar—probably because it never left Japan until much later. You pilot this sleek, angular ship with a gimmick I actually love: you can lock your options (those little helper drones) in place or let them orbit freely. Sounds simple, but it changes how you approach every stage—do you want a wide spread or concentrated firepower?
The first level throws these organic-looking alien ships at you, all pulsating and weird, with a soundtrack that’s equal parts synth and urgency. It’s tough but fair, and once you get the hang of switching your options mid-fight, it feels surprisingly tactical for a 16-bit shooter. The Wii VC release was nice, but there’s something about playing it on original hardware with that chunky Genesis controller.
If you’re into shmups and missed this one, it’s a hidden gem with just enough quirks to stand out.
