Adventures of Mighty Max on the Sega Genesis came out in 1995, developed by Manley & Associates and published by Ocean. It was one of those mid-90s platformers that tried to capture the energy of the cartoon, with a mix of action and exploration that felt pretty typical for the system at the time.

You control Max, a kid in a baseball cap, running and jumping through themed stages like Egyptian tombs and frozen wastelands. Your goal is to rescue your mentor Virgil and stop the evil Skull Master. The game uses a screen-by-screen layout, so you move left or right to new areas, fighting enemies with a simple slingshot or by jumping on them. Some levels include mine cart rides or boulder chases that break up the pacing. It’s not an easy game; the platforming requires precision, and enemies respawn quickly if you backtrack. Playing it feels like a constant scramble, but there’s a certain charm in pushing through the frustration.
