Game Overview
Aero Star is one of those Game Boy shooters that somehow slipped under the radar, but man, it’s good. You’re piloting this nimble little starfighter through waves of enemy ships, weaving between bullet sprays that start simple but get absolutely wild by stage three. The controls are razor-sharp—no floaty nonsense here—and the power-ups actually feel worth grabbing, unlike some shmups where half of them are useless.
It’s got that classic “one more run” pull, where you swear you’ll stop after a game over, then immediately hit start again because you know you can dodge that boss pattern better next time. The pixel art pops for a Game Boy title, too—enemy designs are chunky and readable, explosions have weight, and there’s even some sneaky parallax scrolling in the asteroid level. Feels like someone crammed an arcade cabinet into your pocket.
If you’ve got a soft spot for games where skill matters more than memorization, or just love digging up forgotten 8-bit gems, this one’s a no-brainer. I still hum the stage one theme sometimes.
