Aerostar came out for the Game Boy in 1991, published by Tengen. It was one of those early portable shooters that tried to bring a little arcade energy to the small screen. You don't hear much about it these days, but it had a clear, focused style that fit right in with the system's library at the time.
You pilot a small fighter through vertically scrolling stages, shooting down enemy craft and dodging their fire. Your main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. The ship has a rapid-fire weapon and can collect power-ups to upgrade its shots; you also get a limited-use screen-clearing bomb for tight situations. The game moves quickly, with enemy patterns that demand sharp reflexes and memorization. It feels tense and immediate, especially when you're weaving through bullet patterns with just a sliver of health left.
