Play Altered Space - A 3-D Alien Adventure (Europe) Online
You navigate shifting 3D mazes on a tiny green screen, where walls rearrange behind your back and alien shapes dart just beyond sight—it’s disorienting in the best way.

Altered Space: A 3-D Alien Adventure came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by HAL Laboratory. It was one of those early attempts to bring a first-person perspective to the handheld, using a wireframe style to simulate depth on the modest hardware. At the time, it stood out for its ambition, even if the execution felt a little rough around the edges compared to home console offerings.
You control an astronaut exploring a derelict alien ship, moving screen by screen through mazes that shift and reconfigure as you progress. Your main goal is to find and destroy the central computer core, but along the way you collect keycards, avoid or shoot alien drones, and solve simple environmental puzzles. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense; you never know what lies beyond the next doorway, and the limited visibility adds to the suspense. It feels like cautiously feeling your way through a dark, unpredictable labyrinth, where every turn could lead to progress or a sudden ambush.
