Play Amegas Online
Amegas (1987, Amiga) is an action game based on Breakout. Players control a paddle to bounce a ball, destroying multi-hit blocks, avoiding instant-death skulls, and collecting manually activated power-ups. Some blocks spawn hazards or expand the playfield.
I first played Amegas on the Amiga back in 1987, a game developed by Interceptor Micro's and published by Digitek Inc. It came out during a time when the platform was starting to show off its graphical capabilities, and this one was a clear attempt to push the Breakout formula into something more complex and visually engaging. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it did try to build a much bigger, more dangerous wheel.
You control a paddle at the bottom of the screen, bouncing a single ball to smash apart a field of multi-hit blocks. Your main goal is simply to clear each stage, but it's complicated by instant-death skull blocks and power-ups you have to manually collect by moving your paddle over them. Some blocks break apart to spawn new hazards or even expand the entire playfield, forcing you to suddenly manage a much larger area. The pacing is relentless; you're constantly reacting, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as the screen fills with more threats. It feels like a tense, high-stakes juggling act where one wrong move can end everything.
