I first played Astro Boy: Omega Factor on the Game Boy Advance back in 2004, developed by Treasure and published by Sega. It came out during a time when the GBA was full of inventive action games, and this one stood out for its tight controls and sharp visual style. The game draws from Osamu Tezuka's universe, but it plays like a fast, responsive brawler with some clever twists.
You control Astro Boy, flying and punching through side scrolling stages filled with robots and other foes. Your main goal is to stop a series of threats across different time periods, which involves a lot of combat, some light exploration, and occasional boss fights. Key mechanics include a chargeable finger laser, a jet powered flight ability for navigating stages, and a counter system where well timed blocks let you retaliate. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty can spike during later levels, but it never feels unfair. Playing it gives a real sense of fluid movement and satisfying impact when attacks connect.
