Play Astro Boy - Tetsuwan Atom (Eurasia) (J) Online
Fight through waves of enemies as Astro Boy, using your powers to punch, fly, and blast your way to victory in this side-scrolling beat 'em up adventure.
I picked up Astro Boy: Tetsuwan Atom for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, a side-scrolling action game developed by Hitmaker and published by Sega. It was one of those licensed titles that came out during the GBA's peak, aiming to capture the spirit of Osamu Tezuka's creation without a lot of the flashier production values you saw in first-party Nintendo games at the time.
You control Astro Boy through linear, stage-based levels, using a combination of punch combos, a laser finger beam, and flight to defeat robots and other mechanical threats. The main goal is straightforward: move from left to right, clear out enemies, and defeat the stage boss. Two mechanics stand out: you can fly freely for short periods to avoid ground hazards or reach higher platforms, and a special attack meter builds as you fight, letting you unleash a powerful screen-clearing move when full. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty feels fair, though some enemy patterns require quick reflexes. It feels satisfying to chain together punches and blasts while weaving through airborne foes.
