Game Overview

Babar to the Rescue came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2000, published by Hip Games. It was one of those early GBA titles that tried to bring a familiar character into a side scrolling adventure, back when the handheld was just starting to build its library. You play as Babar the elephant, and the game follows his efforts to save his family from the rhinoceros army that has invaded Celesteville.

You control Babar through a series of levels, each with its own obstacles and enemies. The main goal is straightforward: get to the end of each stage while avoiding hazards and defeating rhino soldiers. Some signature mechanics include swinging on vines to cross gaps, riding in hot air balloons for vertical sections, and carefully managing an oxygen meter during underwater sequences. The pacing is generally brisk, though some underwater parts can feel tense due to the air limit. It is not an overly difficult game, but it does require attention to timing, especially when platforming or dealing with enemy patterns. Playing it feels like a light, sometimes charming diversion that makes decent use of the character and setting.
