Bad Omen came out for the Sega Genesis in 1992, developed and published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that wave of action platformers that tried to blend exploration with a darker, more methodical feel, something a bit different from the faster, brighter titles on the system.

You control a knight cursed by his own sword, moving screen by screen through interconnected gothic environments. Your main goal is to lift the curse by defeating the demon who placed it, which involves navigating trap filled halls, fighting monsters with your sword or a limited supply of arrows, and hunting for keys to progress. The pacing is deliberate, almost cautious; you learn enemy patterns through repetition because the difficulty is unforgiving, and mistakes cost you dearly. It feels tense and atmospheric, like every new room could be your last if you aren't paying close attention.
