Game Overview
Banishing Racer is one of those weird, charming Game Boy games that feels like a dream someone scribbled on a napkin. You play as a beat-up car—literally just a sad little sedan—that gets magically brought to life by a fairy. Next thing you know, you’re bouncing across the U.S., dodging hazards and enemies like some kind of automotive Super Mario.
The levels get surprisingly creative for a game about a possessed car. One minute you’re platforming over junk piles, the next you’re suddenly flying (somehow) or dealing with rising floodwater. There’s even an underwater section, which raises so many questions about car physics. Boss fights pop up too, and they’re as janky and unpredictable as the rest of the game.
It’s not polished, but there’s something oddly endearing about a car with determination, leaping its way to New York one weird level at a time.
