Game Overview
Battle Golfer Yui is one of those weird, charming Sega Genesis gems that never made it overseas. At first glance, it looks like a standard golf game—until you realize you're teeing off against samurai, ninjas, and other anime-style rivals who trash-talk between holes. The courses get wild too, with obstacles like erupting volcanoes and floating islands.
What really hooked me was the RPG-ish progression. You pick one of four golfers (I went with the cocky swordsman guy), then upgrade clubs and stats between tournaments. The physics are arcadey but satisfying—way more forgiving than PGA Tour, but still tricky when wind kicks up or you land in sand traps full of... literal sand monsters.
It’s totally Japanese in the best way, from the over-the-top victory animations to the fact that "par" is apparently just a suggestion. Wish they’d localized it back in the day.
