Game Overview

Battle Mania, known as Trouble Shooter in Japan, came out for the Sega Genesis in 1993, developed by Vic Tokai. It arrived during a time when the console was packed with action games, but this one stood out with its vibrant, frantic style and cooperative possibilities. It never got a wide release outside Japan, which made it something of a hidden entry among Genesis enthusiasts.

You control either Madoka or Maria, two "trouble shooters" who blast their way through side scrolling stages filled with enemies. Your main goal is to clear each screen of foes before advancing; the game locks you in until you eliminate everything. One key mechanic is your option drone, which you can position to cover blind spots or aim separately from your main shot. Another is the ricochet bomb, bouncing off walls to hit enemies around corners. The pace is relentless, and the difficulty spikes quickly, demanding sharp reflexes and smart drone management. It feels like controlled chaos, where every move counts and split second decisions keep you alive.
