Play Battle Squadron Online
You and a buddy blast through shifting alien landscapes, tweaking the difficulty to make enemy bullets as punishing or manageable as you want—just don’t get cocky when the screen fills with lasers.

Battle Squadron came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, developed by Innerprise Software. It was part of that early wave of shooters on the system, before the genre really exploded with more complex titles. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it offered a solid, straightforward experience that felt right at home on the console.
You pilot a lone starfighter through a series of side-scrolling and vertically scrolling stages, tasked with clearing each screen of enemies and their intricate formations. The main objective is survival, pushing forward to confront massive, screen-filling bosses at the end of each level. Two mechanics stand out: the ability to adjust the game's difficulty on the fly, which directly affects the density and speed of enemy projectiles, and a two-player cooperative mode that turns the chaos into a shared effort. The pacing is relentless, with enemy patterns that demand quick reflexes and careful positioning. It feels like a constant, tense dance between aggression and evasion, where every narrow escape is a small victory.
