Battleships came out for the Amiga in 1987, developed by Mindscape. It was a straightforward take on the classic naval strategy game, fitting right in with the kind of thoughtful, turn based experiences that found a home on the platform back then.
You control your own fleet, placing ships on a grid before taking turns firing shots at your opponent's hidden positions. The main goal is to sink all of their ships before they sink yours. Key mechanics include choosing between different ship types for setup and carefully tracking hits and misses to deduce enemy ship locations. The pacing is methodical, demanding patience and a good memory. It feels like a quiet battle of wits, where every shot matters.
