Game Overview

Beerjeweled was a 2004 Game Boy Advance release, though it never saw a formal retail launch. It was developed by a small, now defunct studio, and it feels very much like a product of that era; a time when the GBA was flooded with quick puzzle adaptations. It has the rough edges and simple charm of a budget title made to capitalize on a trend.

You control a cursor to swap adjacent mugs of beer on a grid, aiming to create rows or columns of three or more identical drinks to clear them. The main objective is to serve the increasingly impatient patrons before your time runs out. Two signature mechanics include a rowdy meter that fills as you make matches, causing the onlookers to get more animated and obstructive, and occasional special mugs that clear entire rows when matched. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty spikes sharply in later stages. It feels like trying to keep a party from getting out of hand while you are the only one working.
