Black Matrix Zero drops you into this weird, kinda gothic world where angels and demons have been duking it out forever—and you're just some wingless kid named Cain, stuck doing chores for a mysterious woman named Matia on a backwater island. Of course, that peace doesn't last. When both sides suddenly come sniffing around for Matia and snatch her, you're dragged into this whole mess whether you like it or not.
The battles play out on these isometric grids where positioning actually matters—no mindless button mashing here. You'll shuffle your party around, trying to flank enemies or stay just out of their attack range while whittling them down with swords or spells. Between fights, there's a surprising amount of story, with some genuinely unsettling moments lurking under all the angel-demon politics. It's one of those GBA gems that makes you forget you're playing on a tiny screen.
Fair warning: the difficulty spikes hard if you're not careful with your upgrades, but figuring out how to scrape through each battle is half the fun.
