Bleach Advance came out for the Game Boy Advance in 2005, developed by Dimps and published by Sega. It was part of that wave of anime licensed games that tried to capture the feel of the show on a handheld, back when the GBA was still the main portable for a lot of players. The game adapts the early Soul Society arc, so you get to step into the world of soul reapers and hollows right from your pocket.
You control Ichigo Kurosaki, moving through side-scrolling stages, slashing through hollows and other enemies with his zanpakuto. The main goal is to advance through each level, defeat the boss waiting at the end, and progress the story. A couple of the key mechanics include using special moves like the Getsuga Tensho by charging your spirit energy, and switching between other characters like Rukia or Renji for their unique abilities. The pacing is fairly quick, though some sections can get repetitive, and the difficulty has a few spikes, especially during boss fights. It feels straightforward and action-focused, like a solid beat 'em up that lets you live out some key moments from the anime.
