Bomber Boy came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of puzzle-action hybrids that felt perfectly suited for quick sessions on the handheld, a straightforward concept without a lot of frills.
You control a small character navigating single-screen maze levels, placing bombs to destroy soft blocks and defeat enemies. The main goal is to clear each stage by eliminating all foes while hunting for the exit that appears once the last one is gone. Key mechanics include collecting power-ups that increase your bomb blast radius or the number of bombs you can place at once, and carefully timing your explosions to avoid getting caught in the chain reaction. The pace is methodical but tense, especially in later stages where enemies get faster and the layouts more cramped. It feels like a careful game of positioning and prediction, where one wrong move can trap you with your own explosives.
