Game Overview
Borrowed Time is this moody Amiga text adventure where you play as Sam Harlow, a washed-up PI in the 1930s trying to track down his kidnapped ex-wife. Right off the bat, you’re dodging a pair of goons who clearly want you dead—no idea why yet—and the whole thing feels like a noir flick where every wrong move gets you stabbed in an alley.
You type commands like "examine briefcase" or "ask bartender about Rita," and the grainy black-and-white location images hide little details the text doesn’t mention. Mess up a conversation or wander somewhere sketchy? Suddenly those thugs reappear out of nowhere, and it’s game over. The tension’s great, even if the parser occasionally fights you on phrasing.
It’s one of those games where you take notes, second-guess every interaction, and still get blindsided by sudden deaths. The atmosphere’s thick enough to make up for the frustration, though.
