BreakThru! came out for the Game Boy in 1994, published by Data East. It was one of those puzzle games that felt right at home on the handheld, a solid time-killer for bus rides or waiting around. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, but it had a clear, focused idea that worked well on the small screen.
You control a small cursor, tapping on groups of two or more matching bricks to clear them from the playfield. The main goal is to prevent a constantly rising wall of new bricks from reaching the top of the screen. Chaining clears together causes larger sections to collapse, which is crucial for survival. The pacing is relentless; the wall pushes upward faster as you progress, demanding quick decisions. It feels like a constant, satisfying race against the inevitable.
