Play Brian Lara Cricket (Europe) (June 1995) Online

Timing those pixel-perfect cover drives feels oddly rewarding once you get the hang of it—just don’t let the AI sneak a yorker past your defenses. Chunky sprites and that classic Genesis cricket vibe make it way more satisfying than it has any right to be.

Game Overview

Brian Lara Cricket on the Genesis was my go-to cricket fix back in the day. It came out right after Lara smashed that insane 501-run record, so of course they slapped his name on it—and honestly, it holds up better than you'd expect. The controls take a minute to get used to (timing those shots feels weirdly precise), but once you figure it out, there's something satisfying about nailing a perfect cover drive or watching the ball skid past the keeper.

It's got all the basics—Test matches, ODIs, even a World Cup mode—but don't expect flashy animations or deep tactics. The charm's in the simplicity: chunky pixelated players, that classic Genesis soundtrack, and the sheer joy of smashing sixes when you finally get the hang of it. Just don't get cocky—the AI bowlers love to sneak in a yorker when you least expect it.

Still one of the better cricket games from that era, especially if you're nostalgic for mid-90s sports titles.
