Play Burning Paper Online
You carve paper with quick slashes, dropping chunks to crush bugs below—but cut too much and you’ll fall through your own gaps while they shoot back. The swarm gets trickier, dodging your drops or firing at angles you didn’t expect.

Burning Paper came out for the Game Boy in 1990, developed by Atelier Double. It was part of that early wave of puzzle platformers that really tried to make the most of the handheld's limited hardware. You don't see many games that play like this anymore; it has a very specific, almost experimental feel that fits right into its era.
You control a small character armed with a pair of scissors, and your goal is to clear each single screen of enemies by cutting away the paper platform they walk on. The main mechanics involve slicing the paper to make sections fall away, hopefully taking the enemies down with them. You have to be careful not to cut too much, or you'll leave yourself with no ground to stand on. The pacing is fast and the difficulty ramps up quickly as enemies begin to shoot projectiles and move in less predictable patterns. It feels tense and clever when your plan works, and brutally punishing when it doesn't.
