Bust-A-Move 3 DX came out on the Game Boy in 1998, published by Taito. It was a time when puzzle games were everywhere on handhelds, and this one fit right in. The Game Boy version stripped things down to black and white, but it kept the core of what made the series work.
You control a small cannon at the bottom of the screen, aiming and firing colored bubbles upward to connect groups of three or more of the same color. The main goal is to clear the entire screen of bubbles before they descend and crush you. Key mechanics include banking shots off the walls for tricky angles and setting off chain reactions that clear huge sections at once. The game starts simple but ramps up quickly, demanding careful planning with each shot. It feels satisfying to watch a well-placed bubble trigger a cascade that clears the board.
