Choplifter III came out on the Game Boy in 1994, developed by Beam Software. It was part of that wave of portable action games where you got a complete, challenging experience in your hands, no frills attached. It didn't try to reinvent the wheel, just offered a solid, focused mission.
You pilot a rescue helicopter through side scrolling levels filled with enemy tanks, jets, and turrets. Your main job is to locate hostages on the ground, land carefully to pick them up, and then ferry them back to your home base. The signature mechanics are all about that precise landing and takeoff under constant fire; you have to manage your limited fuel and a vulnerable rotor while navigating tight corridors. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding perfect timing on every run. It feels tense and rewarding when you finally get a full load of survivors to safety.
