I picked up Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage back when it came out on Game Boy Advance in 2004. Vicarious Visions developed it, and it was one of those crossover games that felt like a novelty at the time, bringing together Crash and Spyro in a shared adventure. The GBA had a lot of platformers, but this one stood out because it mashed up two very different styles. It wasn't trying to be a huge console experience; it was built for quick sessions, something you could play on the bus or between classes.

You alternate between controlling Crash and Spyro, each with their own moves and abilities. Crash spins and body slams through obstacles, while Spyro charges and breathes fire. The goal is to stop Ripto and Dr. Cortex from merging their worlds, which involves traveling through themed levels, gathering gems, and defeating bosses. You explore screen by screen, often backtracking to use new abilities on previously inaccessible areas. The pacing is brisk, though some sections can feel repetitive if you're hunting for every collectible. It's not overly difficult, but it demands attention with its timing based challenges and occasional enemy swarms. Playing it feels like switching between two distinct playstyles without ever losing that handheld platformer flow.
