I picked up Crash Nitro Kart for the Game Boy Advance back in 2003, developed by Vicarious Visions. It was a solid attempt to bring the console kart racing experience to a handheld, fitting right in with other portable racers of the time. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it just delivers a familiar, fast-paced Crash Bandicoot racing adventure on the go.
You control Crash or one of several other characters, racing on tracks filled with obstacles, weapons, and tight turns. The main goal is straightforward: finish first in a series of cups across different worlds. Key mechanics include drifting to build up a temporary speed boost and using power-ups like TNT crates or homing missiles to disrupt opponents. The pacing is quick, and the AI can be fiercely competitive, especially on later courses. It feels satisfying to master the drift timing and pull ahead in the final lap.
