Cyber Police ESWAT came out on the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed and published by Sega. It was part of that early wave of action games trying to capture a gritty, futuristic look, with detailed sprites and a dark color palette that stood out among platformers and arcade ports.
You control an officer named Duke Oda, starting on foot with just a pistol before eventually earning bulky powered armor. The goal is to clear each side-scrolling stage of criminals and defeat the boss. Key mechanics include switching between a standard gun and a limited supply of grenades, and later in the armor, using a powerful shoulder cannon that must cool down after firing. The game is methodical and quite difficult, demanding careful aim and ammo conservation. It feels tense and deliberate, like a slow burn through a hostile cyberpunk city.
