You start off picking from these oddly specific character classes—like, do you want to be a spear-wielding priestess or a fireball-chucking mage?—and before long, you’re summoning gods mid-battle to wreck enemies with divine lightning.
The pixel art’s gorgeous, especially the deity designs—some look like they walked out of an old tapestry, all swirling colors and exaggerated features. And the music? That classic Yuzo Koshiro vibe, equal parts synth and melody. Sure, the Japanese text can be a hurdle, but the menus are surprisingly intuitive once you poke around. If you’ve ever wished Phantasy Star had more mythology or Shin Megami Tensei felt chunkier, this is your weird little bridge between them.
