Dangerous Seed came out for the Sega Genesis in 1989, developed and published by Namco. It was part of that early wave of shooters on the system, before the genre really exploded with titles like Thunder Force III. It didn't have the same level of immediate recognition as some of its peers, but it had a unique hook that made it stand out if you spent time with it.
You control a modular ship that splits into three sections; you can swap these parts on the fly to change your weapon patterns. Your main goal is to survive through each stage, clearing waves of alien enemies and taking down large, screen-filling bosses. The strategy comes from figuring out which weapon configuration works best against specific enemy types or boss weak points. The pacing is methodical, almost puzzle-like at times, and the difficulty can spike sharply if you aren't prepared. It feels like a thinking person's shooter, where success depends as much on planning as on reflexes.
