Deep Space came out for the Amiga in 1986, published by Psygnosis Limited. It was one of those early titles that tried to push what the hardware could do visually, with detailed vector-style graphics that stood out among other games of the time. You got a sense of being in a real cockpit, something not every space shooter managed back then.
You pilot a fighter ship through five star systems, taking on missions to clear sectors of enemy craft and obstacles. The main goal is survival; you earn credits from destroyed enemies, which you then spend on fuel, repairs, and ammunition between stages. Signature mechanics include navigating screen by screen through hazardous zones, dodging mines and asteroids, and managing your limited resources carefully. The pacing is deliberate, almost tense; mistakes are costly, and the difficulty doesn’t let up. Playing it feels like balancing on a knife’s edge, where every decision carries weight.
