Deflektor came out on the Amiga in 1987 from Gremlin Graphics. It was one of those clever puzzle games that felt right at home on the platform, which was known for its sharp graphics and sound. You didn't see many games built entirely around manipulating light beams back then.
You control a cursor to rotate mirrors placed on a grid, guiding a laser from its source to a target. The main goal is to complete each screen by aligning the beam correctly, but you also have to avoid overheating traps and outsmart little droids that wander around changing your mirror angles. The game is methodical, sometimes frustrating, but solving a tricky screen gives a real sense of accomplishment. It feels like untangling a knot with your mind.
