DK: King of Swing came out on the Game Boy Advance in 2005, developed by Paon and published by Nintendo. It was a time when the GBA library was full of inventive platformers and spin-offs, and this one definitely stood out for its unique approach. It didn't try to be another traditional Donkey Kong Country game; instead, it carved its own little niche with a control scheme built entirely around swinging.
You control Donkey Kong, navigating a series of single-screen stages by grabbing onto colored pegs with either his left or right hand. The main goal is to climb upward, screen by screen, to reach the boss at the end of each world. The core mechanics are all about rhythm and timing: you alternate button presses to swing from peg to peg, and you can hurl DK forward for momentum or toss rocks at enemies that block your path. The pacing is deliberate, almost puzzle-like, as you plan your route and execute the swings. It feels surprisingly tactile and physical for a 2D game, like you're actually muscling your way up a structure with your own two hands.
