Donald in Maui Mallard is one of those weird, wonderful Genesis games that makes you go, "Wait, Disney actually greenlit this?" You play as Donald Duck—except he’s a detective in Hawaii, and sometimes he turns into a ninja named Cold Shadow. Yeah, it’s as bizarre as it sounds, but it totally works.
The first level throws you right into a jungle full of tiki masks that come to life and lava pits you’ll absolutely misjudge at least twice. Donald’s default hop is kinda floaty, but once you switch to ninja mode (which feels way smoother), you’re flipping around throwing shurikens like some kind of feathery assassin. The art’s bright and cartoony, but don’t let that fool you—some of those platforming sections get sneaky hard.
Honestly, the soundtrack alone is worth firing this up. It’s all ukuleles and synth beats that somehow make jumping on giant frogs feel epic. If you’ve got a soft spot for forgotten 90s Disney games with identity crises, this one’s a blast.
