Game Overview

Dr. Franken came out for the Game Boy in 1992, published by Elite Systems Ltd. It was one of those odd, experimental titles that felt right at home on the handheld, a little pocket of strange in an era full of straightforward platformers and puzzle games. You don't see many games quite like it, even now.

You control a miniature version of Frankenstein's monster, navigating through side scrolling levels set in graveyards and laboratories. Your goal is to find all the scattered body parts of your beloved, then carry them back to a reassembly machine. The gameplay involves careful jumping, avoiding enemies like bats and spiders, and managing your grip on the limbs you collect; if you get hit, you drop everything. The pace is deliberate, sometimes unforgiving, but there's a peculiar satisfaction in finally completing your gruesome collection. It feels clumsy and earnest in a way that's hard to forget.
