Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is basically Puyo Puyo with a Sonic makeover—which, honestly, works way better than it should. You’re dropping colored beans (because of course Robotnik would turn people into beans) and matching them to clear lines while the AI tries to bury you in garbage blocks. The first few matches feel familiar if you’ve played any falling-block puzzler, but then the CPU starts pulling off ridiculous chains and you realize this isn’t just a cute reskin—it gets brutal fast.
Fighting through Robotnik’s goons gives it some personality, though. Each one has their own weird little taunts, and the music’s got that classic Genesis sound. I still remember getting stuck on that one boss who spams combos like there’s no tomorrow. Definitely a solid twist on the formula if you like your puzzle games with a side of ’90s attitude.
