Dr. Sudoku (E)(Rising Sun) is one of those Game Boy Advance carts I didn’t expect to play as much as I did. It’s just Sudoku—no frills, no fancy animations—but there’s something weirdly satisfying about tapping through those tiny grids on the GBA screen.
You start with the easy puzzles, which feel almost too simple, but by the time you hit the medium ones, you’re second-guessing every number. The controls are straightforward (d-pad to move, A to confirm), though I still sometimes misplace a digit when I’m rushing. The music’s this low-key, repetitive tune that somehow doesn’t get annoying—it just fades into the background while you zone out filling squares.
If you’ve ever killed time with a newspaper Sudoku, this is basically that, but without the risk of eraser smudges. It’s not going to blow your mind, but it’s a solid little time-waster for bus rides or waiting rooms. Just don’t blame me when you lose track of an hour trying to crack that one stubborn puzzle.
