Ecks vs Sever is one of those weird little GBA experiments that somehow works—a full-on first-person shooter crammed onto Nintendo’s tiny handheld. You pick between two agents: Ecks, the ex-FBI guy chasing an assassin, or Sever, said assassin trying to shake him off. Same maps, totally different missions. As Ecks, you’re the sniper on overwatch; as Sever, you’re the one chucking grenades to flush him out. It’s janky in that early 2000s portable FPS way, but the cat-and-mouse twist keeps it interesting.
Multiplayer’s where it gets chaotic. Four players crammed around a GBA with link cables, either going full deathmatch, playing VIP escort, or scrambling to collect bomb parts before anyone else. It’s the kind of thing that probably caused at least one sibling argument back in the day. The story’s your usual government conspiracy nonsense, but honestly? You’re here to shoot things on a Game Boy, and it delivers.
