Game Overview

ESPN Speed World on the Genesis is one of those early NASCAR-style racers that somehow feels both janky and weirdly realistic at the same time. You start by tweaking your car’s setup—spoiler angle, tire pressure, shocks—and then immediately realize you have no idea what any of that actually does. Trial and error is the name of the game here.

The tracks are split into three types: Super Speedways (where you just hold down the gas and pray), Short Tracks (tight turns, lots of bumping), and Road Courses (where you’ll spin out constantly). The AI drivers are aggressive as hell, and with 23 cars on track at once, it gets chaotic fast. Split-screen multiplayer is where it really shines, though—nothing like shoving your friend into the wall on the last lap.

No official NASCAR license, but they got ESPN branding and Dr. Jerry Punch doing commentary, which somehow makes it feel legit even when your car is flipping end over end. The physics are surprisingly weighty for a Genesis racer—mess up a turn, and you’ll feel it. It’s rough around the edges, but there’s something weirdly satisfying about it once you get the hang of it.
