Exciting Bass is one of those GBA games that makes fishing actually fun—who knew? It’s not the usual slow, zen-like experience where you stare at the water for minutes. Instead, you’re reeling in fish fast, swapping lures on the fly, and even dealing with sudden weather changes that shake things up.
The Japanese version has this loud, cheerful vibe—bright menus, a bouncy soundtrack, and these exaggerated fish sprites that look like they’re putting up a fight. I got stuck early on trying to figure out which bait worked best (spoiler: the frog lure is weirdly OP), but once it clicks, you start planning casts like it’s a puzzle. Also, the way bigger fish bend your rod to the limit just feels satisfying.
It’s the kind of game you’d dig out of a bargain bin and end up playing way longer than expected. Definitely not your grandpa’s fishing sim.
