Game Overview

Exile - Toki no Hazama he is one of those Genesis games that somehow slipped under the radar, which is a shame because it nails that perfect mix of slashing enemies and unraveling a bleak, time-bending story. You start off as this lone warrior—no fancy introductions, just you, a sword, and some seriously creepy vibes as the music sets the tone.

The combat feels weighty, like your swings actually connect, but don’t expect to button-mash your way through. Enemies hit hard, and the bosses? Yeah, they’ll make you put the controller down for a minute to rethink your life choices. The pixel art holds up surprisingly well, especially in the later areas where the backgrounds get almost uncomfortably detailed.

If you’ve played Ys or older Castlevania games, you’ll recognize the DNA here—just with more existential dread and a plot that actually makes you pay attention. It’s the kind of game that sticks with you, mostly because you’ll be replaying certain sections until 3 AM.
