Game Overview

F1 Tornado came out on the Amiga in 1990 from Zeppelin Games. It was a side-scrolling shooter among many others at the time, offering a straightforward arcade experience that relied on quick reflexes and memorization rather than complex storylines. The game fit right into the era's appetite for action, with colorful, if sometimes flickery, graphics and a driving soundtrack that tried to push the hardware.

You pilot a fighter jet through four distinct levels, scrolling automatically from left to right. Your main job is to destroy everything in your path: enemy planes, helicopters, tanks, and ground installations. You collect power-ups dropped by specific helicopters to upgrade your main cannon and secondary weapons, like homing missiles. Each stage ends with a large boss ship that requires pattern recognition and sustained fire to defeat. The game moves at a brisk pace and the difficulty escalates quickly, demanding precise control to survive the later screens. It feels like a constant, frantic race against the screen's advance and the sheer number of projectiles headed your way.
