Fidgetts, The was a Japan-only Game Boy release from 1990, developed by Irem. It arrived during a period when the handheld was flooded with puzzle games, many of them simple or derivative, but this one had a quiet, methodical quality that set it apart.
You control a small character tasked with clearing each stage by pushing blocks onto specific tiles. The main objective is to cover every marked spot without getting stuck; if you block your own path, you have to reset the room. Signature mechanics include sliding blocks that only move in one direction until they hit a wall, and switches that alter the layout of the stage. The pacing is slow and thoughtful, with a difficulty that spikes sharply in later stages. It feels like untangling a knot with your fingers, patient and satisfying when everything finally clicks into place.
