FILA Decathlon for the GBA is basically Track & Field on steroids—ten punishing events where your thumbs will beg for mercy. You’ll mash A and B like a maniac for sprinting, but then suddenly have to wrestle with the D-pad for hurdles, lane changes in the 1500m, or timing jumps just right. Mess up the pole vault by holding ‘up’ too long? Enjoy faceplanting into the bar.
The throwing events are their own special kind of chaos—javelin requires this weird combo of left, down, then double-tapping right, while discus and shot put feel like trying to pat your head and rub your stomach at the same time. Championship mode forces you through all ten events in order, but practice mode is a lifesaver when you realize you’ve been doing long jumps completely wrong.
It’s brutal, a little janky, and weirdly addictive once you get the rhythm down. Just don’t blame me when your thumbs cramp up.
