Final Countdown_Disk1 is one of those classic Amiga games that feels equal parts tense and weirdly charming. You play as Laira, a space station commander who stumbles onto a deserted station near an asteroid that’s about to wreck Earth. Naturally, you’ve got to poke around every floor to figure out how to stop it—but nothing’s straightforward here.

The station’s a maze of corridors, some blocked by electrified bars or patrolled by droids that’ll either cut your time short or just straight-up kill you. You’ve got a jetpack for zipping up and down, but fuel’s limited, and your only weapon is mines—which, fair warning, can blow you up just as easily as the enemies. Finding extra fuel and gear helps, but half the challenge is figuring out how to use terminals to open doors or disable traps.

Speaking of terminals, the game suddenly throws you into this old-school DOS-like first-person mode where you’ve got to type commands. Mess up, and alarms go off, shaving precious seconds off your clock. It’s clunky in that very '90s way, but once you get the hang of it, there’s something satisfying about outsmarting the station’s systems.
